Velanche’s Album Picks for 2012

Having ended my Urban Landscapes radio show one year ago this month, much has since happened. I’ve rebooted presenting music last January in a guise of a new podcast, only to get back into radio later in the year. Though I have no regrets about taking a break to try and do my own thing, I also have no regrets returning to the airwaves.

As I mention each and every year, I would not be doing what I do, year-after-year, without the terrific support of the labels, producers and artists, and various music promoters among others. I came to realize that these are very hard-working people who are just as passionate about the music they promote as I am in presenting it. I’m sure that they seem to choose me as a trusted musical ambassador just as carefully as I tend to choose them, and the results are that the vast amount of quality music that I receive each year is an abundance of riches.

It should also be said that I have a very loyal fan base of listeners worldwide, and it gratifies me that I can be heard in a car stereo, a cafe, the living room, and through a pair of headphones. This coming year, I hope to get to know more about my audience, as well as the providers whose music you hear each week.

And once again, the album pickings are numerous in quality. It’s just too much to try and narrow down to a “top 10-or-whatever” list, so I’ve decided this year to break it down by categories so that you can hone in on one or more style that might be close to what suit you, and then you can check out these great talents at your leisure. Also, I did not create a singles/EPs list like I’ve done in the past….just far too numerous in the short time window. I hope to start charting these monthly again very soon, and that should make those releases far easier to work with.

Thanks for checking these out, and I do hope you once again give your support to these fine talents. Happy New Year to you, and I’ll be back with a new dance mix this week. Peace.

Velanche’s Recommended Music of 2011 – Part Two: My Choice Songs for 2011

There were many, many fine tracks that have graced my ears during 2011, but ultimately for me it comes down to those ones that stuck with me in an instant. On balance, I somehow return to these tracks again and again, and that’s a clue to what helps a track make a cut…compelling vibes, deep production, and pushing the soul sounds and beats.

The tracks are not in any particular order, so no “Top” this-or-that.

Have a listen, and please give these fine producers and labels your support by buying their music so that they can continue to be motivated so that they can usher in further greatness.

And with that, here we go…

Little People (Sascha Dive Remix) – Matthew Dear – Spectral Sound

You Lift Me Up – Mercury – Gomma

Velanche’s Recommended Music of 2011 – Part One: The Albums

It’s been about two weeks since I’ve ended the long-running Urban Landscapes show, and I’m feeling very confident about doing so. There haS been some who have questioned my decision; that’s fine, and it’s appreciated. In the end, I feel that my decision is good, and right. And since this isn’t the end of all things sharing music, I can honestly say that it’s just one chapter closed, and a new one opening.

So it is that this, 2012, begins that new chapter. Look for my new bi-weekly music podcast, Velanche’s Playtime, in about a week’s time. It’ll be all that you’ve expect from me, but in a bi-weekly format. For now, the show will be available via the Urban Landscapes feed. Otherwise, do subscribe to the podcast if you wish to stay current.

Meanwhile, it’s time to go back to 2011 one more time. Though I’ve ended the show, it’s good to share the music that I’ve been feeling this year with you. As usual, there’s plenty of fine choices. In the end, thee are the standouts that, I feel, set the bar; this is especially true for the singles/EP’s, as well as the songs of the year I’ve chosen (the latter is the first year I’ve decided to do such a list).

The music presented are in no particular order, so do check them out when you can and support these fine artists and labels. This post will feature the albums, and the next will feature…everything else!

Thanks, as ever, for your continued support of quality music from around the world. Look out for the second post, and stay tuned for more news about my new show, as well as new musics, charts, and on and on…

Peace.
