It's that time of year when one's susceptible to other people's diseases, and unfortunately I was stricken too. Greetings, Peeps: After posting the first episode of my new show, things got a bit interesting. It's that time of year when one's susceptible to other people's diseases, and unfortunately I was stricken too. But having now fully recovered from said nastiness, it's time to play a bit of catchup. And so it is that Episode 2 of the Playtime thang is coming alive. There is a lot of music to catch up on, with a few albums and cool tunes notwithstanding. On top of the cool goodness you'll be hearing comes the first guest mix for the new show. It's from a rather formidable UK producer Bigga Bush, back in action with a brand-new album called Music by the Yard. Much of the music in his music, about 30 minutes into the show, features tunes from the full-length, out on his Lion Head album. If you know his previous solo efforts, as well as his creed with the legendary Rockers Hi-Fi, then you know that you're in for a treat. Right now, I have a serious bumper crop of cool dance music...so expect maybe one or two extra shows this month on top of the bi-monthly fare. Look for them. At the least, I was sure that people wanted to know what moved me, and what I recommend, at year's end. So that's how I decided to play it, and what you'll listen to is the result of that. I don't have much to type at the moment, as I'm going to do a separate blog post soon. Look for my post on the albums, singles and EP's that I recommend from 2011 around year's end, and a separate entry on the future plans. Every year since I've started this show nearly 14 years ago, no year ever goes by without some amazing albums that my ears have graced. Soem of them are groundbreaking, but many are just really good music that stands up to close scrutiny, in my mind. They are the best at culling in the variants of soul and jazz, sometimes electronically, other times organically. You would do well to check out the albums on your own and support these talented artists. You won't find them on American top 40 radio, so don't miss your chance to open your hearts, your minds, your ears and take a dive into greatness. Just as I was about to abandon the show, the DJ doing the show befor eme reminded me that perhaps it was a good time to go through previous tunes, given that the show is about to end for good. I'm sort of surprised just how well music can hold up, and just how good it feels that everything old really can become new again. In the end, I know that this is the right decision for me. This, however, won't end my days of sharing music with the world; I have every intention of doing so. I'll let you know as the end is near.
