Velanche Presents Urban Landscapes – Show 16.14

This week has been a hard one for America; cops shooting blacks, cops being shot at…been a bit grueling, to say the least. At the end of this week’s show, I hope that Stevie Wonder can help me put thoughts and words in ways that I cannot.

Also on the show is a musical tribute to Bernie Worrell, an extremely talented music with mad keyboard skills, cultivated over a lifetime. Most may not know him by name, but anyone who’s listened to some of the bad ass synths on the music of Parliament-Funkadelic are sure to have heard of it, as he was a founding member of legendary funk outfit Parliament. If you listen to some of those space-age bass wobbles and grooves, chances are good that they came from his hands. He was one of the first artists embracing the seminal Moog synthesizer, bringing new life to what R&B and funk brought to music. Not only will there be music of Parliament and Funkadelic, but also some of his many collaborations as a studio musician over the years, and also some of his solo work too. I hope that you enjoy this tribute of Bernie Worrell, who passed away just weeks ago.

As ever, thanks very much for listening. I’ll catch you soon with another new show.

Peace.

Urban Landscapes…and Velanche….Taking a Break

Greetings, folks.

I am going to take a sabbatical from my radio show, at least for the rest of the year.

I have two more shows to post online, and then I will do a final show on Sunday, July 31.

I’ve recently taken a look at where I am in my life; some things I’ve progressed in, and others I have not. As some of you know, I have been dabbling into music production on and off for the last few years. Because of my daily non-musical obligations, the rest of the day leaves me with not much wiggle room. While I’ve spent time attempting to be dedicating to crafting my skills and my music, I’ve also found that I’ve put a great deal of effort into the radio show: from listening to the many promos sent into my inbox each week, to traveling back and forth to do the show, to the post-production that I do to put the show online.

On top of that, I have loosened my grip on participating in more social activities. I used to fill up my calendar with all of the things that I wanted to do for music production and the radio show, but it’s been very recently, some of last year, and for the last several months this year, that I’ve been involved with some great locals in San Luis Obispo…some are new, others I’ve known for years that I’ve seldom seen, and I would get into activities that surely crushes whatever I have on my calendar. More often than not, it’s not just a few hours, it can be many hours. I have no regrets in this, but I also realized that for each time I spent on such activities, other things have to give. I’ve lived in San Luis Obispo for 24 years this August, and it’s taken me a long time to adjust…not just to this town, but to myself. it’s been a long journey, with plenty of self-discovery along the way. Yes, I aim to create music for me, and for others, but I also wish to explore areas of life that most people have already enjoyed. Being social, though, doesn’t mean giving up my alone time, because I very much treasure the times when I can be alone, have ample time to reflect and refresh, and just be..until I’m ready to continue.

In any case, I do need some space for awhile, to get my life’s desires in order.

When time permits, I will put up the occasional mixes of new music, monthly I think. I will try and do that; it’ll depend on where my energy lies, and how much progress I’m making with creating music, which is paramount.

Yes, I know that I’m taken breaks before and have given things a try. But the older I get, the more aware I am of life, and of my capabilities. I am understanding that more and more, and I hope you do too.

I wish you well during the rest of 2016, and I hope to be back on the air in 2017. Watch this space, as I’ll share some of my music when the time is right.

Many thanks, to all of you: the labels, the promo pros, the radio station and the great people there, and the fans who kept me going and kept me believe. I still believe; I just hope that you believe in me enough that space is needed to be free and creative…and to just, be. For awhile.

Velanche Presents Urban Landscapes – Show 16.13

ul-cover-07032016Welcome to July 2016. Here on the Central Coast of California, the weather hasn’t been terribly hot, except for the folks who are inland. But other than that, the weather has been fantastic, and it’s a nice way to start off the second half of 2016.

Some housekeeping notes for the show that you should be aware of…

First, the Bernie Worrell tribute for the show will be pushed back; it will either be the next coming show or the one after that, because…

Second, the show will extend to three hours for one week only, which will be next week for sure. That means more music, which means I get to unload quite a bit of newness, so that should be a fun one.

I am currently working on the latest iteration of my music and DJ site, velanche.com. For all intents and purposes, it’s live now, but there are some other things that will become part of it that I will put in place in the weeks to come, so keep your eyes open. I will blog about them, as well.

For now, here’s last Sunday’s show, filled with really good new ones. Have at it! Be back with you, next week.

Peace.

Velanche Presents Urban Landscapes – Show 16.12

Fair warning…there is no Show 16.11.

Okay, that’s not exactly true, but there were some technical snafus that caused me to take some drastic measures halfway into the show, and in the end I had to call it a loss.

But things have been more together this week, and so I bring to you another club mix edition of the show to round out the last week of June, and the first week of summer.

You might have heard that keyboard wizard extraordinaire passed away, last week. On the next show, I’ll have a tribute to the man of many keys who has kept things funky for decades.

By the way, the web site has gotten a bit of a makeover of sorts; more on that, next week. For those of you stateside, have a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend for the stateside folks, and for everyone else, I’ll catch you soon!

Peace.
